- The Problem
Overworked, Underpaid, and Burned Out
Why I Started the Social Work Entrepreneur Academy
By a woman who was tired of seeing social workers struggle when they deserved to shine.
Let me tell you something—before the pandemic, I had a cute little coaching business on the side. Nothing fancy, just a few clients here and there while I kept my steady 9-to-5. It wasn’t paying all the bills, but it gave me joy, and I knew deep down it could be something if I just had the time and energy to pour into it.
Then Miss Rona came through and shook the table.
My clients? Gone. Either they lost their jobs or someone in their household did, and coaching was no longer in the budget. Now thankfully, I still had my job—working with behavioral health providers in private practice, helping them make sense of that chaotic world of CMS-1500 forms, EOBs, credentialing, and all things insurance. I was the go-to person when providers got stuck trying to figure out how to get paid.
And here’s where it gets real: I started to notice something. While the psychologists, psychiatrists, LMHCs, and LMFTs were out here running their practices like businesses, many of the social workers I worked with? Baby, they were STRUGGLING. Smart as hell, heart of gold, but when it came to the business side of things? The gaps were glaring. Not from lack of effort, but because nobody ever taught us this stuff.
At the same time, my social work friends—brilliant, overworked, underpaid—were being sent home during the pandemic and finally seeing that private practice might actually be possible for them. Telehealth changed the game. So what did they do? They started calling me, texting me, “Girl, how do I get started?” “Do I need an LLC?” “What’s the difference between a copay and a deductible again?”
Whewwww. I was doing pro-bono coaching left and right, helping my people get set up. And I loved it—but one thing I noticed? They weren’t just asking how to start a practice… they were asking how I was gonna sell the course I was creating to teach it.
And just like that, a light bulb went off.
So boom—a business was born.
That was five years ago. Since then, I’ve refined my programs, invested in my own growth (yes, I dropped thousands on courses—one was $6,000 chile—and while they taught me a lot, the content was all over the place, and my bank account was screaming). I learned the hard way so my fellow social workers don’t have to.
And now? Now I’m full-time in my business.
No more clocking in for someone else’s dream. No more squeezing my goals into nights and weekends. I’ve stepped fully into my purpose—and let me tell you, the time freedom? Baby, it’s everything. I can rest when I need to. Create when I’m inspired. Serve from overflow instead of burnout. I finally have space to dream, to build, to live. And I want that for you, too.
I created the Social Work Entrepreneur Academy to be the resource I wish I had. A space where social workers don’t just get hyped up on inspiration, but walk away with real strategy, step-by-step guidance, and a community that understands the mission.
Because listen—we are not just case managers and crisis responders. We are change agents, community leaders, and entrepreneurs in the making. And it’s about damn time we stop playing small and start building businesses that honor our values and pay us what we’re worth.
This Academy is my love letter to every social worker who’s ever felt called to do more, but didn’t know where to start. I got you, boo. Let’s build.
You got into this work to make a difference—real change, real impact.
You’ve got the heart, the degrees, the receipts. But now? You’re tired. Overworked, underpaid, and wondering how the hell you’re supposed to build something that actually honors your purpose and pays your bills.
You’re not alone. I see you.
The truth is, no one ever taught us how to take our brilliance—our lived experience, our social work expertise—and market it. Nobody pulled us aside and said,
“Hey sis, here’s how you turn what you know into a business people will actually pay for.”
Instead, we were trained to serve systems that never served us.
And now you’re out here thinking maybe it’s you—maybe you’re not doing enough. But let me tell you something right now:
You’re not lazy. You’re not behind. You’re not doing it wrong.
You just need a roadmap.
A clear, unapologetic path to build a business that reflects your values, uses your voice, and gives you the freedom you’ve earned.
That’s where the Social Work Entrepreneur Academy comes in.
Because it’s time for you to stop surviving—and start building something that’s yours. For real.
